Prof Umesh Rai re-appointed VC JU for 3 years
Srinagar, Dec 13: The Chancellor of the J&K universities, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha Friday re-appointed Prof Umesh Rai as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Jammu (JU) with effect from April 5, 2025.
The order in this regard has been issued by the Chancellor in the exercise of the powers vested in him under Section 12(5) of the Kashmir and Jammu Universities Act, 1969.
“I, Manoj Sinha, Chancellor, University of Jammu, hereby re-appoint Prof Rai, as the VC, JU, for a term of three years with effect from April 5, 2025, the date of completion of his existing term as the VC, JU,” read an order issued by the Chancellor J&K Universities, Manoj Sinha.
Prof Rai from the University of Delhi was appointed as the VC of the JU on March 20, 2022, for a period of three years “with effect from the date he takes over the charge.”
Prof Rai holds a PhD in Zoology from Banaras Hindu University and has done his MSc in Zoology from Gorakhpur University.
He was formerly Director of South Campus, University of Delhi from 2011 to 2016 and Head Department of Zoology, University of Delhi.
He has supervised 13 PhD scholars and has been an author of several publications, some in reputed national and international journals.
