Prof Shabir Iqbal gets Lifetime Achievement Award by SKIMS MCH
Srinagar, Feb 13: Prof Shabir Iqbal, J&K’s most distinguished plastic and reconstructive surgeon, was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award today by SKIMS Medical College Hospital (SKIMS-MCH) Bemina.
Prof Ashraf Ganai, Director SKIMS Soura and Prof Fazl Qadir Parray, Principal SKIMS Soura conferred the award he award was conferred at an event at Hotel Radisson. A CME on cranio-maxillofacial surgery was also held by the medical college, concluding today.
The Department of Maxillofacial Surgery & Dentistry, SKIMS MCH conferred the award to Prof Iqbal for his exemplary contributions to the field of plastic surgery. His extensive service at prestigious institutions, and his lasting impact on medical education, patient care, and specialty development, SKIMS MCH said, is an inspiration for the plastic surgery discipline in J&K, and across the country.
Prof. Iqbal has had an illustrious career spanning over four decades. He completed his M.B.B.S. and M.S. (General Surgery) from GMC Srinagar. He went further to pursue his M.Ch. (Plastic Surgery) from PGI Chandigarh. He is also a Fellow of the International College of Surgeons (FICS) in both General and Plastic Surgery. He started his teaching career and professional expertise at SKIMS Soura where he served as Additional Professor and Associate Professor in Plastic Surgery until 2007.
Later, he joined GMC Srinagar as Professor and Head of the Department of Plastic Reconstructive & Cosmetic Surgery. He has also been Project Director at Smile Train Modern Hospital since 2007, focusing on cleft care and related services. Prof Iqbal has made a mark in cleft lip and palate management, microsurgical free tissue transplantation, hypospadias repair, breast reconstruction, limb salvage, and a wide range of cosmetic surgeries including rhinoplasty, hair transplantation, facelifts, Botox, fillers, liposuction, breast augmentation/reduction, abdominoplasty, body contouring, and laser surgery.
His service and expertise in setting up the Burn Unit at GMC Srinagar is an inspiring one. He is recognized as a guiding light in burn management and reconstruction as well.
He has contributed to medical literature with over 16 professional publications.
Prof Iqbal thanked SKIMS MCH and Department of Maxilo-Facial Surgeries and Dentistry for the award. He hoped that his award will inspire a generation of plastic surgeons to create excellence and improve healthcare and quality of life of patients.
