Prof Mohammad Mobin is new VC Cluster University Srinagar

The three-year term of the incumbent VC of CU Srinagar Prof Qayyum Husain expired in April this year.

Srinagar, July 8: The Jammu and Kashmir government Monday appointed Prof Mohammad Mobin as Vice Chancellor of the Cluster University of Srinagar (CUS) for a period of three years.

The order in this regard was issued by the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha who is also a chancellor of J&K universities.

“In exercise of powers vested in me under Section 12(1) of the Srinagar and Jammu Cluster Universities Act, 2016, I, Manoj Sinha, Chancellor, Cluster University of Srinagar, hereby appoint Prof Mohammad Mobin, Department of Applied Chemistry, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh (UP) as Vice Chancellor of the Cluster University of Srinagar for a period of three years with effect from the date on which he takes over the charge, on the terms and conditions to be notified separately,”  the order reads.

As already reported, the outgoing VC Professor Qayyum Husain was appointed as the VC of Cluster University of Srinagar on April 1, 2021, for a three-year term.

The Jammu and Kashmir government started the process for the appointment of new Vice Chancellor for Cluster University Srinagar in March this year.

Following the constitution of a search committee to draw the panel of candidates, the Registrar CU Srinagar issued a notification inviting applications from eligible candidates for the VC post.

The three-year term of the incumbent VC of CU Srinagar Prof Qayyum Husain expired in April this year.

Prof Mohammad Mobin (FRSC), Professor at the Department of Applied Chemistry, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Aligarh Muslim University is an internationally acclaimed researcher in the field of Materials and Corrosion.

He obtained his PhD in Chemistry in 1988 from Aligarh Muslim University and subsequently joined as Lecturer and later promoted to Professor in 2005. In the year 2001, Dr. Mobin joined foreign assignment at the Corrosion Department, Seawater Desalination Research Institute, Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC), Al-Jubail, Saudi Arabia. At SWCC, during the period 2001 to 2006, he worked as a Corrosion Researcher and carried out industrial, academic and Root Cause Failure Analysis/Trouble Shooting projects and pilot plant studies with reference to corrosion problems in world’s largest desalination and power plants and the water transmission and storage systems.

Prof Mobin has also undertaken MHRD, Government of India, 3 weeks of Leadership for Academicians Programme (LEAP) training held at IIT(BHU) Varanasi (December 8, 2019, to December 21, 2019) and at the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom (January 19, 2020, to January 25, 2020) designed for the purpose of preparing senior faculty for future governance roles as leaders in academic institutions.
