Prof Iffat Hassan assigned additional charge of Principal GMC Srinagar
Srinagar, Apr 2: The Health and Medical Education Department of Jammu and Kashmir has assigned the Incharge Principal of Government Medical College (GMC) Handwara, Prof Iffat Hassan with the additional responsibility of serving as the Principal of GMC Srinagar.
The decision was taken in light of the impending retirement of Prof Tanvir Masood Bhat, who served as the Principal of GMC Srinagar.
The administrative reshuffle has been done during the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct, which is in effect due to the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Authorities have cited the need for seamless continuity in the leadership of the premier medical institution as the primary reason behind the interim appointment.
“Consequent upon the superannuation of Principal GMC Srinagar, Prof Bhat on March 31, 2024, and due to the Model Code of Conduct being in place because of the General Elections to Lok Sabha-2024 and to ensure patient care in GMC Srinagar and Associated Hospitals, it is hereby ordered that Prof Iffat Hassan, Incharge Principal GMC Handwara, would look after the charge of Principal GMC Srinagar, in addition to her duties, till further orders,” reads an order.
GMC Srinagar is one of the oldest and most prestigious medical colleges in the region, renowned for its academic excellence and state-of-the-art healthcare facilities.
