Prof Ganai gets 2 year extension as VC SKUAST-K
Srinagar, Dec 13: The Chancellor of the Jammu and Kashmir universities, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha Friday extended the term of incumbent Vice Chancellor of the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, Kashmir (SKUAST-K) for two years.
The order has been issued by the Chancellor in the exercise of the powers vested in him under Section 25(2) of the SKUAST Act, 1982.
“I, Manoj Sinha, Chancellor, SKUAST-K hereby extend the tenure of Prof Nazir Ahmad Ganaie, Vice Chancellor SKUAST-K, for a period of two years,” the order reads.
As per the order, the extension would come into effect from December 16, 2024, which is the date of completion of the existing term of incumbent Vice Chancellor SKUAST-K.
Prof Ganaie was in December 2021 appointed as the VC SKUAST-K for a period of three years or “until he attains the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier.”
He was earlier working as Director of Planning and Monitoring, SKUAST-K.
Born in 1965, Prof Ganaie was instrumental in getting SKUAST-K the prestigious Rs 30 crore World Bank ICAR Project (NAHEP).
With more than 30 years of experience in teaching, research, and extension and 11 years experience as a professor, Prof Ganaie has done PhD in Genetics and Breeding from National Dairy Research Institute Karnal.
He has also done a post-doctorate from Wageningen University of Research (WUR), Netherlands.
Ganai has been Director of Planning and Monitoring for about four years and he has also held a number of administrative positions at SKUAST-K.
He got a joint fellowship on academic leadership from IIT Roorkee and Michigan University, USA in 2018 and Durham International Fellowship for Research and Enterprise Durham University, UK, in 2016.
He also got a visiting Fellowship from Wisconsin State University, USA, in June 2012 and an Erasmus Mundus Fellowship of the European Union at Wageningen University, Netherlands, in 2009.
An official said that the incumbent VC SKUAST-K was considered for extension as he was yet to attain the age of 65 years.
