PRINCIPALS’ MEET; WORKSHOP ON ‘EMBEDDED SYSTEMS, ROBOTICS’ AT IUST | Equipping students with latest technologies imperative: Prof Romshoo
Awantipora, Nov 20: Vice Chancellor Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) Prof Shakil A Romshoo Monday stated that training students in the latest technologies had become a necessity to be able to meet industry requirements.
He was addressing the gathering after inaugurating the two-day workshop on “Embedded Systems and Robotics” being organized by Department of Computer Science and Engineering, IUST, in collaboration with e-Yantra, Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay in presence of Prof Kavi Arya from IIT Bombay.
The workshop was attended by principals of different degree colleges, polytechnic colleges, Deans of schools, Director CIED IUST, faculty and scholars.
Prof Romshoo, while welcoming the participants, emphasized on the mission of e-Yantra programme. He said that the new technologies were expected to disrupt the job scenario and it was the duty of the educational intuitions to equip students with the latest skills, and e-Yantra was the suitable platform in this regard. He said IUST would extend the support to the colleges and other institutions in spearheading the new technological revolution.
Prof Kavi Arya emphasized on the role of technology in enhancing the quality of Kashmiri products, such as horticulture and handicrafts, for the international market. He urged the adoption of technology to boost high-value tourism and discussed the impact of AI on teaching jobs, encouraging educators to adapt by fostering entrepreneurial mind-sets among engineering students.
Prof A H Moon, Dean Academic Affairs, highlighted IUST’s recent achievement of a 4-star accreditation, placing it among the top 9 institutes in India for innovation and entrepreneurship. He discussed how robotics could positively impact sectors like horticulture, handicrafts, and tourism in J&K.
Earlier, Dr Rumaan Bashir extended welcome to the participants. Sajaad Ahmed Lone, HoD CSE, IUST and programme coordinator expressed gratitude to all participants, speakers, and collaborators.
E-Yantra IIT Bombay is a flagship project of the Ministry of Education through the National Mission on Education through ICT (NMEICT) to spread embedded systems and robotics education in colleges across India.
