Principal Accountant General inaugurates Library on Wheels at HSS Sangam
Srinagar, Sep 12: The 15th edition of Alisha’s Library on Wheels—a mobile library project aimed at supporting students preparing for competitive examinations—was inaugurated today at the Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Sangam, Idgah, Srinagar, by K.P. Yadav, Principal Accountant General of J&K. The school had suffered the tragic loss of two teachers in an attack in 2021.
A statement said that the 10-seater library, fully stocked with books on UPSC, SSC, banking, state PCS, law, and other competitive examinations, aims to empower students with knowledge, guidance, and access to opportunities.
This initiative is a collaborative effort by Alisha Madhuvarshi, a US-based NRI student whose book royalties fund the project, and Deputy Commandant Rakesh Nikhaj of the CISF, who provided all the books for the library. For this edition, the 161 Battalion of CRPF, Srinagar, under its Community Outreach Programme, contributed all the necessary furniture, further strengthening the bond between security forces and the local community through education and empowerment.
In his address, K.P. Yadav said, “Books illuminate the path where violence once cast a shadow. With this 10-seater library, we are not just offering resources—we are rekindling the dreams of young students. Education is the strongest antidote to fear and despair, and initiatives like these will help Kashmir’s youth to rise, learn, and lead.”
Speaking on the occasion, Commandant Balihar Singh of the 161 Battalion CRPF said, “CRPF has always believed in winning hearts through service and outreach. We understand the value of education and how, especially in the Kashmir Valley, it opens doors to unlimited opportunities for people.”
Alisha, the young NRI co-founder of the initiative, joined the event virtually and interacted with students, listening to their aspirations and challenges. She encouraged them to dream big: “Every book you open is a new door to possibility. This library is your space—make it a stepping stone to shape your future, and remember that the world is waiting to hear your voice.”
Co-founder Rakesh Nikhaj, Deputy Commandant of CISF, highlighted the importance of perseverance and education, saying, “I, too, once began my journey with limited means but abundant determination. Education changed the course of my life, and I believe it can transform yours as well. This library is a resource, but your true strength will come from hard work and consistency. We are with you on your journey.”
Seven meritorious students were awarded online courses worth Rs 50,000 to prepare for competitive examinations conducted by the Staff Selection Commission. The 14th edition of the library was unveiled recently at the Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Rainawari, Srinagar.
