President of India stresses moral responsibility in environmental conservation at ‘Environment – 2025’ Conference
New Delhi, Mar 29: The President of India inaugurated the National Conference on ‘Environment – 2025’ on Saturday, emphasising the need for environmental consciousness to be an integral part of daily life. Speaking at the event, she highlighted the collective responsibility of society in preserving and enhancing the environment through continuous activism and participation. “All days related to the environment give the message that we should keep their objectives and programs in mind every day and make them a part of our daily life as far as possible,” the President stated, highlighting that true environmental protection is only possible through sustained awareness and action.
Addressing the long-term impact of environmental degradation, she expressed concern for future generations. “Our children and the younger generation have to face and contribute to environmental transition on a much wider scale,” she said. She urged families to extend their concerns beyond education and career choices to the fundamental issues of air quality, water availability, and biodiversity preservation. “It is our moral responsibility to provide a legacy of a clean environment to the coming generations,” she added, calling for an environmentally conscious and sensitive lifestyle to ensure a vibrant and thriving natural world.
The President also highlighted India’s deep-rooted ethos of environmental stewardship. “We believed that nature, like a mother, nourishes us, and we should respect and protect nature. The basis of the Indian heritage of development is nourishment, not exploitation; protection, not elimination,” she affirmed.
She expressed satisfaction that India has made notable progress in meeting its Nationally Determined Contributions under international environmental agreements ahead of schedule. Concluding her address, the President emphasized that achieving a balance between a clean environment and modern development is both an opportunity and a challenge. She called for sustained commitment to environmental responsibility as India moves towards a sustainable and developed future.
