New Delhi, Oct 9: President Droupadi Murmu, will visit three African countries, Algeria, Mauritania, and Malawi from October 13 to 19.

Visit to Algeria (October 13-15)

President Murmu will start her trip in Algeria, where she will meet with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. They will discuss ways to strengthen cooperation between India and Algeria, especially in areas like oil, gas, defence, and space. President Murmu will also attend the India-Algeria Economic Forum, visit the Sidi Abdellah Science and Technology University, and inaugurate the India Corner at Hamma Garden. Algeria and India share a strong relationship, and this visit is expected to further deepen ties.

Visit to Mauritania (October 16)

Next, President Murmu will travel to Mauritania, which currently holds the presidency of the African Union. She will meet with President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani and other key leaders, including the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister. President Murmu will also engage with the Indian community in Mauritania. This visit aims to boost India-Mauritania relations during this important period.

Visit to Malawi (October 17-19)

From Mauritania, President Murmu will visit Malawi at the invitation of President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera. She will hold talks with Malawian leaders, meet with trade and industry representatives, and visit cultural and historical sites. This visit will reaffirm India’s commitment to strengthening its friendship with Malawi.

This State Visit highlights India’s strong interest in building deeper partnerships with African nations. It follows the African Union’s membership in the G20 last year, during India’s presidency.
