New Delhi, Mar 8: President Droupadi Murmu of India is set to embark on a State Visit to the Republic of Mauritius from March 11 to 13 marking a significant diplomatic engagement between the two nations.

Invited by the Government of Mauritius, President Murmu will partake in the National Day celebrations of Mauritius on March 12th as the Chief Guest.

The visit will witness the participation of a contingent from the Indian Navy, alongside two Ships from the Indian Navy's First Training Squadron - INS Tir and CGS Sarathi.

President Murmu's agenda includes bilateral meetings with President Prithvirajsing Roopun and Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth of Mauritius. Additionally, she will meet with key Mauritian dignitaries, including the Speaker of the Mauritius National Assembly and the Chief Justice of the Mauritian Supreme Court.

Highlighting the depth of India's development partnership with Mauritius, President Murmu and Prime Minister Jugnauth will jointly inaugurate 14 India-assisted projects during the visit.

Addressing Mauritian youth at the University of Mauritius and engaging with the Indian diaspora, President Murmu will underscore the enduring bonds between India and Mauritius.

As the sixth Indian President to grace the Mauritian National Day as Chief Guest since 2000, President Murmu's visit symbolizes the longstanding and enduring ties between the two nations. It reflects the commitment of both countries to deepen bilateral relations across various sectors and foster closer people-to-people connections.

In a recent development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth of Mauritius jointly inaugurated several pivotal projects via video conferencing on February 29th. These projects, including a new Airstrip and St. James Jetty, alongside community development initiatives on Agalega Island, highlight India's strategic collaboration with Mauritius. Enhancing infrastructure on North Agalega Island holds significant strategic implications, positioning India with a stronger foothold in the western Indian Ocean region.
