President Murmu calls for peace, shared progress in Manipur’s hills, valley
New Delhi, Dec 12: President Droupadi Murmu on Friday used her visit to Senapati, Manipur, to deliver a message centred on peace, unity and inclusive development, stressing that the state’s strength lies in the harmony between its hills, valleys and tribal communities.
In her address at a public function where she inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for several development projects, the President said that ensuring dignity, security, and wider opportunities for Manipur’s tribal communities is a national priority.
She emphasised that the Government of India is working with local leaders, civil society and grassroots institutions to ensure development in the state is both inclusive and sustainable.
Describing Manipur as a land enriched by its diverse cultures, languages and traditions, President Murmu said the hills and the valley “have always complemented each other, like two sides of the same beautiful land”.
She urged all communities to continue supporting peace, understanding and reconciliation in the state.
The Centre, she said, recognises the aspirations of the people of Manipur and remains committed to their well-being and progress.
The President highlighted that remote tribal regions across the country, including Manipur’s hill districts, have benefited from focused investments in recent years.
These range from improvements in national highways, rural roads and bridges to better healthcare, education, drinking water access and electricity supply.
Livelihood initiatives such as skill training, self-help groups and Van Dhan projects are also helping enhance the quality of life.
Earlier in the day, President Murmu visited the Nupee Lal Memorial Complex in Imphal, where she paid tribute to the Manipuri women who led historic uprisings against British and feudal powers.
The memorial honours their courage and lasting role in the state’s history.
