New Delhi, Nov 12: At the invitation of President João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, President Droupadi Murmu attended the 50th anniversary celebrations of Angola’s Independence at the Praça da República in Luanda.

The ceremony featured a colourful display of Angola’s rich military and cultural traditions, marking a milestone in the nation’s post-colonial history. President Murmu joined President Lourenço and other dignitaries in commemorating the occasion, underscoring India’s warm and longstanding ties with Angola, a key partner in Africa.

Later in the day, President Murmu arrived in Gaborone, Botswana, marking the final leg of her two-nation African tour. Her visit to Botswana is the first-ever State Visit by an Indian Head of State to the country.

In a special gesture reflecting the close bonds of friendship between India and Botswana, President Murmu was received at the Sir Seretse Khama International Airport by President Duma Gideon Boko. She was accorded a ceremonial welcome, including a guard of honour, upon her arrival.
