President appoints Justice Tashi as CJ of J&K and Ladakh HC

Srinagar, Sep 21: President of India Droupadi Murmu Saturday appointed Justice Tashi Rabstan as Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court. An order of the Ministry of Law and Justice, Department of Justice (Appointments Division), Government of India said, “In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Justice Tashi Rabstan, Judge, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court, to be Chief Justice of the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court, with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.”

Justice Rabstan’s appointment was among the eight Chief Justices notified by the Centre.

With these appointments, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Meghalaya, Kerala, Madras and Jharkhand High Courts get Chief Justices.

Justice Manmohan, presently Acting CJ of Delhi High Court has been appointed as the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court.

Justice Rajiv Shakdher, presently Judge of Delhi HC, has been appointed as the Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court.

Justice Suresh Kumar Kait, Judge of Delhi HC, has been appointed as the Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court.

Justice Indra Prasanna Mukerji, Judge of Calcutta HC, has been appointed as the Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court.

Justice Nitin Madhukar Jamdar, Judge of Bombay HC, has been appointed as the Chief Justice of Kerala High Court.

Justice Tashi Rabstan, Judge of J&K and Ladakh HC, has been appointed as Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court.

Justice K R Shriram, Judge of Bombay HC, has been appointed as Chief Justice of Madras High Court.

Justice MS Ramachandra Rao, presently Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh HC, has been appointed as the Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court.

Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal posted on "X" about their appointment.

The Supreme Court collegium initially made the recommendations for these High Courts on July 11.

Two months later, on September 17, the collegium modified three of its earlier proposals (regarding Justices Kait, Rabstan and GS Sandhawalia.

The collegium has also proposed that Justice G S Sandhawalia of Punjab and Haryana High Court be appointed as the Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court after the retirement of Justice Shakhder on October 18.
