Preparations underway for release of captives in Gaza
New Delhi, Oct 12: Extensive logistical preparations are in progress for the release of captives held in Gaza. Members of the International Committee of the Red Cross will oversee the handover process, receiving the captives before transferring them to the Israeli army, international media reported.
Medical teams are on standby to conduct initial examinations and facilitate their transport into Israel. US President Donald Trump is expected to arrive around 9 am local time to meet the families of the captives, reports Al Jazeera.
At the same time, families of Palestinian detainees in the West Bank have been informed about the impending release of their sons but have been warned against holding public celebrations or displaying flags.
The exact timing of the releases remains undisclosed, with details closely guarded by authorities.
Hamas has confirmed that the release of Israeli captives will begin on Monday morning, ahead of an international peace summit in Egypt co-chaired by President Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
Under the first phase of the agreement, Hamas will release 20 Israeli captives, believed to be alive, in exchange for nearly 2000 Palestinian prisoners.
