Preparations underway for Mizoram’s first rail inauguration

Aizawl, Sep 7: Secretary, Information and Communications Technology Department, Mizoram, and Director Census Operations, Amit Sharma, held a series of meetings and site visits on Sunday to review preparations for the upcoming inauguration of the state’s first rail line to Aizawl.

The project will culminate at Sairang Railway Station, where the historic event is scheduled next week. Sharma chaired a review meeting with officials from Railways, Power, PHE, PWD, Fire & Emergency Services, Forest, Protocol and IPR departments, directing them to complete works on time. He later travelled in a media special coach from Sairang to Bairabi to inspect stations along the route.

Calling the rail link a “game changer” for Mizoram, Sharma said it would boost the state’s economy, rationalise prices, improve connectivity and open new opportunities for tourism.

He also reviewed ICT arrangements with senior officials from Railways, Department of Telecom, BSNL, Airtel and Jio, instructing them to ensure fool-proof connectivity with multiple live tests ahead of the VVIP inauguration.
