Jammu, Apr 29: In a pulsating finale at Jammu's iconic M A Stadium, Preet Nagar Cricket Club edged past Trikuta Cricket Club to win the Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Tournament.

The week-long sporting event was aimed at spreading awareness against drug abuse. The championship, held under the theme “Say no to drugs”, culminated on April 28 with a strong turnout of spectators and dignitaries.

The grand finale drew an enthusiastic crowd and was attended by guests of honour, including Sajjad Shaheen (MLA Banihal), Engineer Khurshid (MLA), Satwant Kour Dogra, provincial president of the women's wing of Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, and Rakesh Singh Raka, vice president of the central zone.

The tournament was inaugurated by Dr Farooq Abdullah, president of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference and former Chief Minister of J&K. With a mission to promote positive youth engagement and raise awareness against substance abuse, the tournament served as a strong social message delivered through the passion of sports.

Preet Nagar Cricket Club showcased exemplary performance and sportsmanship throughout the tournament, ultimately lifting the championship trophy amid loud cheers and celebration.

Tejinder Pal Singh Aman, provincial president of the J&K Youth National Conference and chief organiser of the tournament, expressed heartfelt gratitude to all the participating teams, supporters, and local administration.

“This tournament has proven that sports can be a powerful tool to unite, educate, and empower. Congratulations to Preet Nagar Cricket Club on their well-deserved win,” he said.

The guests of honour handed over trophies to the winning team, Preet Nagar Cricket Club; the runner-up team, Trikuta Cricket Club; the Man of the Match; the Man of the Series; the Best Batsman; Best bowler; umpires; scorers; ground manager; the whole YNC organiser team and special guests.

The organisers extended special thanks to the community for overwhelming support and reiterated their commitment to hosting more such events aimed at youth upliftment and social awareness.

Among those who were present on this occasion were Pardeep Bali, Ayub Malik, provincial secretaries of Jammu, Ashwani Charak, block president of Jammu East, Dr Vishal Parihar, vice president of Jammu province YNC, Shahan Kichloo, senior media analyst, Sahil Kerni, district president of Jammu urban YNC, Zamir Quershi, Som Raj Taroch, joint secretary of the central zone; Majid Iqbal Naik, Kousar Malik and Amit Sharma, among others.
