Srinagar, Mar 1: In a significant move to enhance youth employability, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), in collaboration with Power Sector Skill Council (PSSC), launched a skill development training programme for Smart Metering implementation under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) of the Government of India as part of its CSR initiative.

The inaugural function took place in Srinagar, where the training course for 'Junior Technician-Smart Metering' commenced at the Youth Empowerment Organization (YEO), the designated training centre for District Srinagar. The event was attended by key officials including Dr VK. Singh, CEO of PSSC; Jasbir Singh, ED-CSR (POWERGRID);  AH Khan, Sr. GM, POWERGRID (Kashmir); and Syed Shamim, Sr DGM (POWERGRID), who serves as the Nodal Officer for District Srinagar. Thirty candidates, divided into two batches, will receive this specialized training.

POWERGRID, India's premier power transmission company, plays a vital role in the nation's electricity infrastructure by ensuring reliable and efficient power transmission across long distances through its EHVAC/HVDC transmission network. The company maintains a strong focus on sustainable community development and environmental stewardship through its CSR initiatives.

Under this particular CSR project, POWERGRID has partnered with PSSC to fund the implementation of skill development training for 6,000 candidates across 34 locations nationwide for Smart Metering under the RDSS. This initiative aims to empower youth with self-reliance, confidence, and economic independence through sustainable income opportunities. POWERGRID will monitor progress through quarterly, half-yearly, and annual reports, with a comprehensive completion report due within three months of project conclusion.

The project will also facilitate Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) certification for experienced industry workers, enhancing their employment prospects and earning potential.
