Powergrid donates state-of-the-art light & sound system to JU
Jammu, Sep 8: Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (Powergrid), a Maharatna PSU under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, has provided a state-of-the-art Light & Sound System to the University of Jammu as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.
The system, worth around Rs 13 lakh, was formally handed over by Tarun Bajaj, Executive Director, POWERGRID Northern Region-II, to Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor of Jammu University. The ceremony coincided with the University’s Foundation Day and was held in the august presence of Chancellor and Lieutenant Governor of J&K, Manoj Sinha, and former Chief Justice of J&K and Ladakh High Court, Justice Tashi Rabastan.
According to Powergrid, the Light & Sound System will augment the safety and security infrastructure of the Jammu University campus, supporting emergency response, crowd management, and communication during events.
It will also enhance the university’s ability to conduct lectures, cultural programmes, and public gatherings with improved clarity, while smart, energy-efficient lighting will strengthen sustainability by reducing power consumption and operational costs.
The initiative is expected to directly benefit over 3,500 students and extend its impact across Jammu district and adjoining regions. Vice Chancellor Prof. Rai thanked Powergrid for the support, noting that the new infrastructure will significantly improve campus facilities.
