Power supply drops to 980 MW in Kashmir valley after heavy snowfall

Srinagar, Dec 28: Snowfall across the Kashmir Valley has brought with it significant challenges, particularly in terms of power supply. The Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) has reported a substantial drop in power supply, reducing from 1800 MW to 980 MW due to damage to several electrical feeders.

According to the latest updates, Kashmir is grappling with the aftermath of the snow, with 41 feeders at the 33 KV level and 739 at the 11 KV level currently out of service. Fortunately, no disruptions have been reported at the higher voltage levels of 132 KV or 220 KV.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah took to social media to inform the public about the situation, stating, "In Kashmir region, 41 feeders at 33 KV level and 739 feeders at 11kv level are down. None at 132kv or 220 level. Restoration work is underway and more than 90% feeders are expected to be up and functional by evening today. I’m in regular touch with the PDD team to monitor the situation."

The Chief Engineer of Distribution at KPDCL further elaborated on the ongoing efforts on Social media, "Due to heavy snowfall, many 33KV/11KV feeders are under fault. The restoration work on affected feeders is underway & KPDCL field staff is braving all hardships in restoration. Consumers are requested to cooperate. Field staff is directed to observe safety as per SOPs."

The KPDCL staff, operating under challenging conditions, are committed to ensuring that power is restored across the valley as soon as possible."
