Kupwara, Oct 5: Swift action has been initiated to restore electricity in Jumagund, a remote village near the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district, following a Greater Kashmir report that highlighted the hardships faced by residents living without power for nearly two years.

Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Shrikant Balasaheb Suse, confirmed the development and said the restoration work on the damaged transmission lines has already begun.

“The restoration work has started and will be completed within 15 days. The residents of Jumagund will soon be reconnected to the power supply,” the DC told Greater Kashmir.

The power supply to Jumagund was snapped after heavy snowfall in the winter of 2023 damaged the transmission lines spanning over 10 kilometres from Puta Khan Gali to the village. Despite repeated pleas to authorities, the restoration work had not been taken up, leaving the area in complete darkness.

Following Greater Kashmir’s report published on Saturday, the administration swung into action to address the issue.

Residents have welcomed the move and urged the authorities to ensure early completion of the work before the onset of harsh weather.

“Our area remains snowbound for months, so timely completion is crucial. If the schedule is maintained, we will see electricity in our village after almost two years,” a local resident said.

The restoration marks a major relief for the residents, who had been struggling without electricity in harsh conditions.
