Power Grid declares 220 /66 kV   Chandigarh GIS Sub-station as pink sub-station

Srinagar, Oct 11: Power Grid Corporation of India Limited, a Maharatna Public Sector undertaking under the Ministry of Power, Government of India has declared 220/66 kV Chandigarh Process Bus Technology based Digital GIS Sub-station as Pink Sub-station.

A statement of the Power Grid issued here said that the state-of-the-art substation was declared as Pink Substation by Tarun Bajaj, Executive Director (NR-I &II) in presence of Babita Bajaj, Anil Sharma, CGM (I/C Pang -Kaithal Transmission Project), Shafat Ahmed Wani, Sr GM (AM-NRII), Vinod P Baxala, General Manager (HR) and other senior officers and employees of Power Grid.

The statement said that this substation is the first Pink station of Northern Region-II of Power Grid.

It said that pink substations of Power Grid are operated and headed by women executives in line with its commitment towards Women Empowerment.

The statement said that Power Grid has been consistently rated as one of the Best Places for Women to Work.

It said that the substation was being headed by Simrit Powar, Chief Manager, Power Grid.

The statement said that Chandigarh substation is Power Grid’s first Greenfield Process bus Technology based Substation and was constructed under the package of ‘Establishment of 220/66 kV 2 X160 MVA GIS at UT Chandigarh along with 220 kV D/C line from Chandigarh GIS to 400 / 220 kV Panchkula (Power Grid) Substation’.

It said that the substation was commissioned on March 24, 2023, with the prime objective of improving the reliability and availability of power in UT Chandigarh.

The statement said that Power Grid Corporation Of India Limited is a Maharatna Enterprise under the Ministry of Power having its regional headquarters of Northern Region-II at Jammu.

It said that the Power Grid is engaged in inter-state bulk power transmission. POWERGRID has 178,195 ckm of transmission lines, 279 sub-stations and more than 537,276 MVA of transformation capacity.

The statement said that with the adoption of latest technological tools and techniques, enhanced use of automation and digital solutions, Power Grid has been able to maintain average transmission system availability greater than 99 percent.

It said that Power Grid’s performance has been consistently excellent by achieving very difficult measurable parameters which are set in MoU signed with the Ministry of Power, Government of India.
