Potholes on MA Road pose risk of accidents
Srinagar, Feb 14: Commuters have expressed concern over dilapidated road stretch on vital Maulana Azad Road saying this poses risk of accidents on the busy route.
A delegation of commuters said that near MA Road intersection, vehicles turning towards Sangarmal side have to pass through a big stretch of dilapidated road. “This not only causes traffic jams but also poses a risk of accidents. It is not a pothole but a crater. It is surprising why authorities have closed their eyes on the dismal condition of roads in Srinagar,” said Abdul Hamid, a commuter.
Commuters said many stretches on MA Road were dug up a month ago dug up to lay cables for connecting base stations with the Smart Traffic Light System. “However after laying the cables, the broken surface was not filled or repaired as a result the gap has widened hampering smooth vehicular movement,” they said.
“Due to uneven surface and potholes on MA Road, there is risk of accidents to e-buses and particularly e-rickshaws which can lose balance,” said Ghulam Ahmad, a commuter.
“If this is the condition of one of the major roads of Srinagar, we can imagine the state of other city roads. At least concerned authorities can ensure repairs of dilapidated stretches on roads to prevent accidents but they are in slumber,” rued Sajad Ahmad a commuter.
There are many roads in Srinagar which are dotted with potholes. Commuters said a large stretch of road near Nowpora has caved. Despite the passage of several months, the road has not been repaired. The Nowpora road leads to major hospitals and due to the dilapidated road, there are massive traffic jams throughout the day. As a result ambulances are usually stuck in traffic jams.
