Poonch village gets electricity for Ist time
Rajouri, Jan 18: A village in Poonch got electricity for the first time.
Despite large scale development in various fields of life, the remote Chamrer village of Poonch district was yet to be electrified.
Life of people, however, has now changed there due to the supply of electricity. Chamrer, a remote village of Poonchs' Surankote sub division, is surrounded from all sides by dense forests and falls near Bufliyaz which is take off point of Mughal Road.
The village, falling adjacent to Dehra Ki Gali which is boundary of Rajouri and Poonch districts, is having human habitation which is growing with time.
It is located in the middle of a dense forest cover that starts from Bufliyaz and ends at Nar, Bhata Dhurian while this village also remained in news after an encounter between army personnel and on October 11 in 2021 in which five army personnel lost their lives. It is also few kms away from the site where terrorists ambushed army vehicle in DKG forests on December 21 last year in which four army personnel lost their lives.
The villagers of Chamrer were dependent on electricity supply in other villages even to charge their mobile phones village . They were moving from pillar to post to get their demand for electricity settled.
" We had approached almost every concerned senior offices but our demand was not met for all these years. We are happy now that finally we got the supply now,” said the villagers.
The officials of Power Distribution Corporation Ltd (PDCL) informed that the village was un-electrified and was to be covered under SAUBHAGYA scheme for which work was also started there years ago.The work, however, got abandoned midway due to closure of scheme.
Now, officials said, the work for electrification of villages was taken again and completed thereby village has been electrified.
District administration Poonch in an official statement informed that Chamrer village in Mastandhara, which is remote yet beautiful mountainous village in Block Bufliaz of Poonch district, got electricity for the first time.
The step has thus ended the decades of darkness from the lives of the villagers, administration informed. With the support of the worthy District Development Commissioner Poonch, the balance work of electrification of village was taken up in hand during the current financial year and completed with 115 households have been electrified, the administration mentioned.
