Srinagar, May 30: Senior politicians have expressed grief and shock over the death of 22 pilgrims in a road accident in Akhnoor today.

National Conference (NC) President said, "I am pained beyond words to know about the loss of lives in a bus accident in Akhnoor near Jammu. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families. I wish speedy recovery of the injured. The administration should provide all possible assistance to the bereaved families besides extending medical facilities to those who are injured."

Chairman of Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) Ghulam Nabi Azad said, "I am deeply saddened by the tragic bus accident in Akhnoor, Jammu, that claimed 22 lives and injuries to others. My heartfelt condolences go out to the families of the victims. I urge the government to provide immediate compensation to the affected families and ensure the best possible treatment for the injured." He highlighted the growing issue of road accidents in the Jammu region. "Road accidents are on the rise in the Jammu region. There is a lack of accountability and strict enforcement against rash driving and overloading. The government must take strong measures to control these accidents," Azad. He further emphasised the urgent need to address these issues to prevent such tragedies. "Overloading and rash driving on highways must be curbed to prevent such tragic incidents," DPAP Chairman added. He called for stringent measures to improve road safety and prevent future accidents, ensuring the safety and well-being of all passengers.

Apni Party President Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari posted on X, “Heartbreaking to hear about the fatal road accident, claiming the lives of 22 persons in Chungi Morh Akhnoor on Jammu-Poonch National Highway. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families who lost their loved ones in this tragic accident. May the bereaved families, alongside every other affected by this tragedy, find patience and strength in this hour of utter grief. VIKAR RASOOL WANI

President JKPCC Vikar Raool Wani has expressed deep shock over the death of 22 persons in the Akhnoor road accident.

He urged upon the government to provide immediate special medical help to the surviving passengers and also financial help in favour of next of kins of deceased to the tune of Rs 10 lakh each and Rs five lakh to the injured.

CPI(M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami s expressed deep shock and grief over the fatal road accident at Chungi Morh area of Akhnoor. He expressed sysmpathies with the bereaved families.

HAKEEM YASEEN

Chairman J&K Peoples Democratic Front (J&K PDF) and former Minister Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen has expressed sorrow and grief over the death of 22 persons and injuries to about 69 passengers in Akhnoor road accident.

He expressed heartfelt sympathies with the bereaved families. Yaseen demanded adequate compensation to the victim families and free treatment to the injured.
