‘Political suicide’: Omar Abdullah says Ruhullah backed a man who ‘will never let him grow’
Srinagar, Nov 14: In his strongest attack yet after the National Conference’s defeat in the Budgam by-poll, J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday said MP Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi had “committed political suicide,” claiming the person Ruhullah backed in Budgam “will never let him grow.”
Taking a clear dig at Ruhullah, who had refused to campaign for the NC candidate, Omar said, “You cut off your nose to spite your face. We wanted something else for Budgam. We wanted development and a relationship with the ruling party, but people chose otherwise.”
The Chief Minister said the party would now undertake a detailed assessment of the defeat. “We will analyse where we erred, what needs fixing, and what changes are required within the NC. Decisions will be taken accordingly,” he said.
The political tension intensified further as Omar’s remarks came just hours after Ruhullah posted a cryptic message on social media, quoting a Quranic verse warning against arrogance. “Arrogance is the recipe for disaster. Consciousness, humility and introspection is the way,” Ruhullah had written, a post widely interpreted as an indirect comment on the Budgam loss and internal rifts within the NC. (KDC)
