Police top brass visit families of cops killed in Nowgam blast
Srinagar, Nov 17: Senior leadership of the Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday visited the families of personnel who lost their lives in the accidental blasts at Police Station Nowgam, reaffirming the department’s commitment to stand by the bereaved in their hour of grief.
Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, accompanied by Special DG (Coordination) SJM Gillani, IGP Kashmir VK Birdi and DIGs of central and south Kashmir, met the families in various parts of the Valley to offer condolences and express solidarity.
ADGP CID Nitish Kumar and SSP CIK Tahir Ashraf visited the home of Inspector Asrar Ahmad in Drugmulla, Kupwara, to convey sympathy and assure the family of continued support. Officials said the outreach forms part of sustained efforts to stand with families of personnel who have laid down their lives in the line of duty.
During the visits, the DGP conveyed that the department would provide every possible assistance. “The police stand firmly with the bereaved families. Their loss is immeasurable, and we honour the supreme sacrifices made by our brave personnel,” he said, according to officials present.
The DGP also travelled to Hariparigam, Awantipora, to pay tribute to Crime Photographer Javid Ahmad, who was among those killed in the Nowgam incident. He expressed deep sorrow and praised the officer’s dedication and professionalism, directing that all formalities and welfare measures be expedited.
Prabhat further visited the families of Head Constable Mohammad Amin of Bemina, Selection Grade Constable Ajaz Ahmad of HMT and another bereaved family in Kulgam affected by the tragedy.
At each home, he offered condolences and assured that the police would extend full financial, administrative and welfare support. “Their sacrifice embodies the highest values of Jammu and Kashmir Police,” he said.
In a related visit, ADGP CID Nitish Kumar and SSP CIK Tahir Ashraf Bhatti also met the family of Inspector Shah Asrar-ul-Haq in Kupwara, conveying solidarity and the department’s commitment to stand with them through the difficult period.
