Police take cognizance of sexual assault incident in Nishat

Srinagar, May 04: Police on Sunday took strong congnizance of a reported incident of sexual assault of a woman in Nishat area of Srinagar.

They said an FIR under relevant sections of the law has been registered while as four accused persons involved in the crime have also been arrested.

Srinagar Police in a post on X (formerly Twitter) said: “Srinagar Police has taken cognizance of a reported incident of sexual assualt of a woman near Water Works Road, Nishat, who sustained  grievous injuries and was later declared brought dead at the hospital”.

“FIR under relevant sections of law stands registered in PS Nishat and four accused persons involved in the commission of crime have been arrested. Further investigation is ongoing,” Police said on X.

“District Police Srinagar remains committed to justice and public safety,” the post on X added.
