Police take action against unlicensed pet shop in Baramulla
Srinagar, Nov 05: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday took action against the pet shop operating without a valid licence in north Kashmir’s Baramulla.
An official said that Baramulla police acting on a complaint received from Animal Aid Kashmir—an Anantnag-based NGO—conducted a joint inspection at Zain Pet Store, Baramulla, in coordination with representatives from the Wildlife Protection Department and the Municipal Council Baramulla.
During the inspection, several animals were rescued from the premises and handed over to the NGO on proper receipt through the Wildlife Department.
Accordingly, action under Section 36 of the Police Act has been initiated at Police Station Baramulla. The shopkeeper has also been directed to close the shop until a valid licence is obtained, official said.
Police reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and welfare of animals and urged the general public to report any incidents related to animal cruelty or illegal animal trade.
