Srinagar, Nov 19: In a sustained effort to strengthen preventive vigilance and stop the misuse of regulated materials, Jammu and Kashmir Police have launched extensive inspection drives across Ganderbal, Sopore, Awantipora and Budgam. The checks targeted shops dealing in chemicals, fertilisers, hardware items and other commodities that, if mishandled, could pose security risks.

Officials said the drive focused on monitoring the sale and storage of chemicals, solvents, fertilisers and equipment that could be potentially diverted for unlawful or anti-social activities. Shopkeepers were sensitised about maintaining proper documentation, adhering to storage norms and reporting any unusual bulk purchases. Police teams also stressed the importance of fire-safe handling of combustible and hazardous materials.

In Ganderbal, special teams from multiple police stations, supervised by senior district officers, inspected dozens of establishments. Stock registers, invoices, storage spaces and licensing documents were checked to ensure full compliance with regulations.

A parallel exercise was carried out in Sopore, where traders were directed to keep detailed buyer records, including identification and intended use of regulated materials. Officers advised shop owners to maintain functional CCTV systems to strengthen surveillance and improve transaction traceability. Police noted that Sopore recently completed a comprehensive census of all shops dealing in chemicals, fertilisers and mechanical equipment, giving authorities a clearer picture for monitoring sensitive items.

In Awantipora, police teams inspected stock and sales records, storage conditions and mandatory licenses. Officials said the checks aimed to identify discrepancies, unlicensed trade and any attempts at diversion of sensitive materials. They emphasised that traders must keep records updated and cooperate fully during future inspections.

Budgam Police also conducted a district-wide inspection drive covering chemical, fertiliser and hardware stores. Surprise checks, supervised by senior officers, focused on verifying stock records, sale registers, licenses and adherence to safety protocols.

Police said such inspection drives will continue regularly to ensure strict compliance and prevent any illegal or unsafe use of regulated materials across the Valley.
