Police seize drug peddler’s properties worth Rs 2 Cr in Bishnah
Jammu, June 3: Police Monday seized properties worth Rs 2 Cr, belonging to a drug peddler in Bishnah area of Jammu district.
“The Jammu & Kashmir Police, continuing action against drug peddlers, today confiscated the properties of notorious drug smuggler namely Chirag Attri alias Chetan, son of late Ved Raj Attri, resident of Chak Jaralan, tehsil Bishnah, district Jammu under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The seizure has been made as a part of a drive against drug peddlers under operation ‘Sanjeevani’,” a police spokesperson said.
“This drug smuggler is a habitual offender and several NDPS cases have been registered against him in the past and has been recently detained under PIT NDPS. A team of J&K Police in Bishnah area attached three properties viz., one under Khasra No 345, situated at village Chak Jaralan, Bishnah; a commercial Pacca hall, having dimensions of 50'X27' feet situated at village Chak Chua, Bishnah and a vehicle (Swift Dzire), bearing registration No JK02DE-6002, all belonging to this notorious drug smuggler,” spokesperson said.
According to the spokesperson, the action was taken under sections 68-E, F of the NDPS Act of 1985 and was linked with different cases of NDPS Act registered against him (drug peddler).
“The properties were identified as illegally acquired properties during the course of investigation conducted by the police. The properties were prima facie acquired from the proceeds of illicit trafficking in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances by the drug peddler,” spokesperson said.
Presently, this notorious drug peddler was detained under PIT NDPS Act issued by the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu and cases FIR No. 134/2022 U/S 8/21/22 NDPS Act, Miran Sahib; case FIR No 192/2022 U/S 341/324/201/34 IPC, Police Station Bishnah and case FIR No 203/2022 U/S 8/21/22 NDPS Act, Police Station Bishnah were registered against him.
Meanwhile, police have urged people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood and warned that any person found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt with strictly as per law.
“This operation reaffirms the commitment of police to combat the drug menace,” spokesperson said.
