Srinagar, Oct 14: Acting tough against the persons involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday seized three vehicles and a mechanized motor boat in Awantipora.

An official said that a police party of Police Station Awantipora headed by SHO PS Awantipora seized one mechanized motor boat being used for illicit extraction of sand from river Jehlum. The persons involved have been identified as Nazir Ahmad Dar, and Mohd Amin Dar, both residents of Karnabal Samboora.

Accordingly, a case vide FIR NO. 214/2025 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Awantipora and further investigation has been initiated.

Moreover, a police party of Police Station Awantipora headed by SHO Police Station Awantipora seized three tractors bearing registration number JK13J-9175, JK13C-2186, and chasis No. 36987. The person involved in the said crime have been identified as Irshad Ahmad, son of Gh Ahmad Panchoo; and Bilal Ahmad Bhat, son of Gh Mohi ud Din; both residents of Larkipora and Bilal Ahmad Shah, son of Nazir Ahmad Shah, resident of Bhoo. Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 215/2025 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Awantipora and further investigation has been initiated, official said.

Police appealed community members to extend their cooperation by sharing any information regarding such unlawful activities in their areas. Police also assured complete confidentiality of the informants and reiterated its resolve to take strict legal action against those indulging in illegal mining.
