Police recover illicit timber in Handwara’s Darashpora

Kupwara, Apr 20: Police on Sunday said that it has recovered illicit timber from two locations in Darashpora area of Handwara, following specific tipoff about presence of timber in the area. An official said that raids were conducted at two locations in the Darashpora area of Handwara, during which a total of 28 timber logs were seized on the spot.

Accordingly, FIR No. 80/2025 has been registered under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 and Section 26 of the Indian Forest Act at Police Station Handwara, and further investigation is underway.

The accused individuals involved in the case have been identified as Showkat Ahmad Mir son of Abdul Rehman Mir, Handwara and Mohammad Amin Tantray, son of Habibullah Tantray both residents of Dureshpora, Handwara, police said. It may be recalled that a few days ago during a joint operation by Police, Revenue Department and Forest officials, almost 58 CFT's of illicit timber was seized in the same village from different individuals.
