Police officer dies during rescue operation in Leh

Leh, Sep 10: A senior officer of Ladakh police Inspector Tsewang Namgyal died while leading a rescue operation in the Indus River near Khaltsi area of Leh, Ladakh few days back.

Namgyal was posted in the UTDRF and was part of a rescue operation in the Indus River in Leh which was aimed to save a minor girl who had drowned in the said river. The officer lost his life as the boat he was on capsised. Despite the efforts of the team, Inspector Namgyal died in the mishap.

Lieutenant Governor Ladakh Brig BD Mishra expressed grief over the death of the police inspector Namgyal. “I am deeply saddened to learn of the tragic loss of Inspector Tsewang Namgyal in the line of duty. He was a brave, dedicated and decorated public servant who was always ready to serve the people. His unwavering courage and commitment to saving lives will forever be remembered.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time. May the Almighty bestow upon them the strength to overcome this loss and give eternal peace to the departed soul,” the LG said.

Ladakh police mourned the loss of inspector Namgyal. “ Inspector Tsewang Namgyal was a stalwart figure in disaster response, having played a pivotal role in numerous rescue operations. His unwavering commitment and courage were evident in every mission he undertook, often putting his own safety at risk to save others. His exemplary service has been a beacon of hope in many crises, ” ADGP Ladakh said. Senior IPS officer and DIG Udhampur range Rayees Mohammed Bhat has also expressed his grief over the death of inspector Tsewang Namgya. “ One of the bravest and finest warriors I have had the honour of serving with.

Namgyal was an ace with the David Sling and courageous beyond belief during my Pulwama tenure. A hero who lived and died by his duty. Salutes to him,” Bhat posted on X. LAHDC Leh also mourned the loss. “ We at LAHDC extend our heartfelt condolences to Inspector Namgyal’s family and colleagues. Chairman/CEC, Adv.Tashi Gyalson, LAHDC, Leh, has conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family and recognized Inspector Namgyal’s invaluable service and sacrifice,”it said.
