Police Martyrs Football Tournament inaugurated in Kupwara
Kupwara, Oct 25: Police Martyrs Football Tournament on Friday was inaugurated at the Football Ground, Government Higher Secondary School, Kupwara with an aim to pay tribute to the fallen heroes of the police force and aims to promote community engagement and participation of youth in sports.
The tournament was inaugurated by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kupwara Ghulam Jeelani Wani while other senior police officers including Additional Superintendent of Police Kupwara (ASP) G M Bhat, DySP DAR Kupwara Syed Mujahid-ul-Haq, DySP Headquarters Kupwara Rafee Rather along with other officers from District Police Kupwara.
The event kicked off with an inaugural match between Yamin FC Lalpora and Trehgam FC, where Yamin FC emerged victorious with a scoreline of 2-1. The tournament is witnessing participation of 16 football teams from across the district.
Pertinently this tournament is being played under the Civic Action Programme and in hounour of Police Commemoration Day 2024 and as part of Police Flag Day observance (October 21-31).
SSP Kupwara on the occasion said that "This tournament not only commemorates the sacrifices made by our police martyrs but also serves as a platform for promoting peace, unity, and engagement within the community" he said.
He further said that the aim of these initiatives by the District Police Kupwara, was to engage the youth in constructive and healthy activities, thereby diverting them from the path of drug abuse and other anti-social behaviors. "These events not only help to develop a sense of community and sportsmanship but also contribute significantly to the overall well-being and positive development of the younger generation" he added.
