“There is dire need of deploying some undercover cops in different markets of the town especially places where drug menace is in rise,” said Muhammad Akram, a local resident.

“At the same time as a responsible citizen we need to keep an eye on suspected persons and inform the local police about the same,” he added.

Notably, as of November this year, the police successfully registered 260 cases and apprehended 452 drug peddlers. Notably, 70 hardcore offenders were booked under various acts including the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) and Public Safety Act (PSA).

The impact of the crackdown goes beyond arrests, with properties worth crores belonging to drug peddlers being attached. Substantial seizures of contraband, exceeding Rs 14 crores, underscore the effectiveness of the police’s relentless efforts.
