Police file chargesheet against PDP youth leader Waheed Para for MCC violations
Srinagar, Sep 05: Pulwama Police Thursday filed a chargesheet against Waheed Para, the Youth President of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate for the Pulwama assembly segment, for violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) during the Lok Sabha elections earlier this year.
According to Srinagar based news gathering agency Kashmir Dot Com, the case, lodged under Section 188 of the IPC, pertains to alleged disobedience that could have endangered public safety.
The chargesheet, presented in the Court of Sub Judge Mobile magistrate Pulwama, details instances where Para reportedly conducted unauthorised roadshows on April 27, 2024, across multiple areas including Beighpora, Padgampora, and Larkipora, among others. The police assert that no permissions were granted for these events.
Additionally, Para is accused of violating MCC regulations during a vehicle-bound rally from the PDP office to various locations including Rajpora Chowk and Peaks Crossing. Despite requests from the SHO and duty Magistrate to cease the rally, Para proceeded without official approval, compromising his own security and that of others.
The chargesheet also mentions that a response sought from the District President of JKPDP regarding these violations was delayed and deemed unsatisfactory.
With the chargesheet now filed, formal court proceedings have commenced and next date of hearing has been fixed on 03/02/2025. Para continues to campaign as a PDP candidate in the upcoming assembly elections.
