Police crack theft case in Ganderbal

Ganderbal, Oct 29: Police have solved a theft case by arresting six individuals, while also recovering stolen livestock.

An official stated that on October 18, a written complaint was received by Police Station Kangan from one Mohammad Younis Jungle, resident of Kalakoot Rajuri, regarding the theft of his livestock (sheep/goats) at Badipathri Behek Naranag.

Upon receipt of the complaint, a case was registered under Section 303 (2) BNS at Police Station Kangan, and the investigation was initiated.

Ganderbal Police constituted a special team under the supervision of SDPO Kangan Mohammad Ashraf, headed by SHO PS Kangan Mehboob Hussain. After strenuous efforts and with the help of technical inputs, the police recovered 30 stolen sheep, goats worth lakhs from the upper reaches of Gutlibagh Forest.

Meanwhile, one person was apprehended in this case, who disclosed his identity as Showkat Ahmad Bhat, resident of Wurpash Ganderbal. During the investigation, he confessed that he had committed the crime along with five others: Shafeeq Ahmad Khan, resident of Wurpash Ganderbal; Tariq Ahmad Khan, resident of Wurpash Ganderbal; Irfan Ahmad Kataria, resident of Chatergull Bala Kangan; Mohammad Reyaz Baniya, resident of Rajori A/P Chatergull Bala Kangan; and Irshad Ahmad Raina, resident of Gund Ari Kangan. All six accused have been arrested and taken into police custody at Police Station Kangan.

Additionally, two vehicles bearing registration numbers JK05G-1602 and JK16C-1118, used in the commission of the crime, were seized. Further recovery of stolen livestock is expected.
