Police cane charge protesters in Kathua
Jammu, Oct 15: Police today cane charged protesters who had assembled outside Deputy Commissioner (DC) Office in Kathua to protest against installation of smart meters in their areas.
The protesters also performed different plays to lodge their protest and blocked road outside the main entrance of DC Office. The administration made pleas to protestors to disperse and lift dharna. But they refused and police resorted to mild lathi charge.
Officials said that some of the protesters have also been detained from the site.
The protesters on the other hand alleged administrative highhandedness. They said that they were protesting against installation of smart metres against the wish of people and no one in the administrative setup bothered to listen to them.
