Police bust 3 drug trafficking networks in north Kashmir
Srinagar, Oct 29: The Jammu and Kashmir Police have busted three drug trafficking networks in three separate incidents across the north Kashmir range.
As per the official handout, during the operations, J&K Police has recovered around six kgs of Heroine and Brown Sugar worth Rs 43 crores and detained eight persons in various coordinated efforts in district Baramulla, Kupwara and Police District Handwara.
The police said that three FIRs under relevant sections of NDPS act were registered in the concerned Police Stations of north Kashmir range Baramulla.
"In PS Baramulla FIR No 243/2024 U/S 8/21,29 NDPS act stands registered in which 2.695 kgs of heroine( like substance) recovered and 03 No. of persons stands arrested , in PS Karnah FIR No 58/2024 U/S 8/21, 29 NDPS Act stands registered in which 2.884 kgs of heroine (like substance ) recovered and 04 No. of persons stands arrested and in PS Handwara FIR No. 193/2024 U/S 8/21 NDPS act stands registered in which 465 gms of Brown Sugar( like substance) recovered and o1 person has been arrested," the handout reads.
The Police have identified the arrested persons as Nazim Din Tass son of AlamdinTass from ZamboorPattan Uri, Waqar Ahmad Khawaja son of Abdul Rouf Khawaja from Tangdhar Kupwara and Manzoor Ahmad from Handwara.
Other arrested have been identified as Sajad Ahmad Gorsi son of Waliur Rehman and Mohd Ismail Gorsi son of Faqeer Mohammad both from Amrohi, Majid Ahmad Sheikh son of Mohammad Yousuf from Tangdar Bakhayan, Nisar Ahmad Badan son of Mohammad Suliaman from Amrohi Karnah and Javid Ahmad Sofi son of Abdul Razaq Sofi from Khumbal Handwara.
"J&K Police remains resolute in its commitment to eradicate the drug related crimes from the fiber of Society by dismantling illicit narcotics networks supported by militancy," the handout reads.
The handout further reads that drug addiction has become a worldwide problem and unfortunately Kashmir is no exception due to the prolonged turmoil and militancy.
"As per the reports of parliamentary standing committee on social justice and empowerment approximately 1.35 million drug users are estimated to be in the UT of J&K. Illegal drugs and narcotics remains a pressing issue with far reaching consequences that affect individuals, families and community on the larger extent," it reads.
The handout reads that J&K Police to a larger extent have implemented several steps to curb the drug menace through coordinated and multi-pronged measures.
"These efforts include enforcing stringent laws and regulations against drug trafficking abuse. Initiatives like community awareness programmes about the dangers of drug abuse, collaboration with other agencies, drug rehabilitation programmes for individuals struggling with addiction and enhanced surveillance of trafficking routes and hotspots to identify and apprehend the offenders," the handout reads.
