Srinagar, Feb 6: Police on Tuesday booked two most wanted drug smugglers under the PIT NDPS Act in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district and lodged them at Central Jail Kot Balwal Jammu after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent authority.
A statement of J&K Police issued here said that acting tough against drug peddlers and to eradicate the menace of drugs from society, the most wanted drug smugglers Shahid Manzoor of Mohalla Mir Sahab Baramulla and Shabir Ahmad of Singhpora have been booked under PIT-NDPS Act after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent authority.
The booked drug smugglers have been detained and subsequently lodged at Central Jail Kot Balwal Jammu.
The cases were registered against these drug smugglers. They were involved in promoting the drug abuse trade by supplying drugs to local youth of Baramulla, Pattan, and other areas of the district.
Police said that despite their involvement in many FIRs they did not mend their activities and were again involved in promoting the drug abuse trade by supplying drugs to local youth.
“People appreciated the role of the Police for their action against drug peddlers. The consistent actions of the Police against the drug peddlers should reassure the community members that the Police are making all efforts to keep the society free from drug abuse,” the statement said.
