Police arrests man for abduction and murder of Anantnag woman
Anantnag, March 19: Police in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district have successfully solved the case of a missing woman from Kokernag, leading to the arrest of the accused and the recovery of the victim’s body.
The case came to fore on March 16, when Kokernag Police Station received a complaint regarding the disappearance of a woman (identity withheld).
Police swung into action and launched an investigation into the matter.
During the probe, technical evidence indicated a possible abduction, with suspicion falling on Altaf Mir, a 31-year-old resident of Lawaypora, Srinagar.
An FIR (No. 15/2025) was initially registered under sections 87 and 49 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
As the investigation progressed, the suspect was taken into custody for questioning.
During interrogation, he confessed to the crime.
Following his disclosure, police recovered the victim’s body from his residence in Lawaypora, Srinagar today.
Further charges under sections 64 and 103 of the BNS were added to the FIR considering the severity of the offense
“The police have sent the body for postmortem and forensic examination to gather further evidence. Legal proceedings are ongoing, and we are committed to ensuring a thorough investigation,” SSP Anantnag G.V. Sundeep Chakravarthy told media men in a press briefing.
He said that justice will be served, and the accused, along with any other individuals involved, will face the strictest legal action.
