Police arrest long-time absconder in Anantnag

Dec 4: Police in Anantnag have arrested a long-time absconder who had been evading law for years. The accused, Rattan Chand, son of Vikru Chand, a resident of Gurah Kalyal Billawar, was wanted in FIR No. 45/2013 under sections 366, 376 and 343 RPC registered at Police Station Achabal. After sustained efforts and technical tracking, he was arrested from Mahanpur, Basohli in Kathua district.

He has been taken into custody and will be produced before the court.

Meanwhile, in Shopian, police recovered a significant quantity of contraband during a raid at a residential house in Safanagri Zainapora. Acting on specific information, Police Station Zainapora registered FIR No. 120/2025 under NDPS Act and obtained a search warrant from CJM Shopian. During the raid at the house of Farooq Ahmad Dar, 7.9 kg of cannabis-like substance was seized and the accused arrested. Further investigation is underway.
