Police arrest drug peddler in Handwara

Kupwara, Dec 8: A drug peddler was arrested along with contraband substance at Kachwari area of Handwara, police said on Sunday.

Police in a statement said, "Continuing its unwavering efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police have arrested one drug peddler in Handwara and recovered contraband substance from his possession".

"A team of Police Station Handwara established a Naka at Kachwari Handwara , during checking one person namely Irshad Ahmad Sofi son of Mohammad Ramzan Sofi resident of Bakiakher was apprehended by police team, during his personal search 100 grams of charas like substance was recovered from his possession. The accused was arrested on spot.

In this regard, a case vide FIR No. 217/2024 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Handwara and investigation has been initiated," reads the statement.

"Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt with as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace," reads the statement further.
