Police arrest drug peddler in Ganderbal

Ganderbal, Oct 10: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from society, police have arrested a notorious drug peddler in Ganderbal and recovered contraband substances from his possession.

Police Station Safapora received information from a reliable source that one Umar Reyaz Bhat, resident of Treesa, Safapora, had hoarded some contraband cannabis-like substance inside his residential house with the intention of selling it to local youth.

Acting swiftly, a special police team led by the SHO of Safapora conducted a search of the house along with the Executive Magistrate 1st Class Lar. During the search, approximately 11.2 kg of crushed cannabis-like substance (Bung Patti, including tops and seeds) was recovered. The accused was arrested on the spot and has been shifted to the police station, where he remains in custody.

Subsequently, a case under FIR No. 26/2024 has been registered at PS Safapora under relevant sections of the law, and further investigation is underway.
