Police arrest bootlegger in Shopian, liquor recovered
Shopian, Nov 1: In a significant action against the illegal liquor trade, police in Shopian have arrested a suspect and seized illicit liquor from his possession.
A police party from PS Shopian, during routine patrols in Batapora, intercepted a suspicious individual carrying a bag. The suspect attempted to flee upon noticing the police but was tactfully apprehended.
He has been identified as Bhashkar Shagosh Chavhan, a resident of Ramaji Nagar, Sonala Road, Borgaon, district Akola, Maharashtra, currently residing as a tenant at Batpora Chowk, Shopian.
During the search, 26 bottles of illicit liquor were found in the bag. He has been arrested and taken to the police station.
Accordingly, a case has been registered at PS Shopian, and an investigation has been initiated.
The J&K Police have urged citizens to come forward with any information related to drug or liquor trafficking in their area, as “community cooperation is vital in the fight against social evils.”
