Police arrest 5 drug peddlers in Kashmir, contraband substance recovered
Srinagar, Oct 24: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested two drug peddlers in Baramulla, Shopian & Anantnag and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
A police spokesperson said that a police team at a checkpoint established near Gingel Bridge intercepted a person identified as Tahir Hameed son of Abdul Hameed Khan resident of Gingel. During search, 07 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from his possession.
He said in Shopian, a police team at a checkpoint established at Narwani Amerbug crossing, intercepted a suspicious person identified as Aijaz Ahmad Bhat resident of Moman Danjipora Bijbehara. During search, 1.480 kgs of charas like substance were recovered from his possession.
Similarly, in Anantnag, a police team at a checkpoint established at Dachigam Pethnoo Crossing, intercepted a vehicle (Alto K10) bearing registration number JK19A-0435, with three persons on board. They have been identified as Bilal Ahmad Bhat son of Gh. Nabi Bhat resident of Katritang Bijbehara, Feroz Ahmad Dass son of Ali Mohammad Dass and Ajaz Ahmad Mattoo son of Gh. Mohammad Mattoo, both residents of Waghama Bijbehara. During search, officers recovered 4.584 Kgs poppy straw concealed in a nylon bag. They have been arrested and the vehicle used in the commission of the crime was also seized.
He said the cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigations have been initiated.
