Police arrest 4 drug peddlers in Awantipora & Kupwara; contraband substance recovered
Srinagar, Oct 13: Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested four drug peddlers in Awantipora & Kupwara and recovered contraband substance from their possession.
A police spokesperson said that in Awantipora, a police team of Police Post Toll Plaza headed by Incharge Police Post Toll Plaza at a checkpoint established at Kaigam Crossing intercepted a vehicle (Taveera) bearing registration number RJ14TB-6291 with 02 persons onboard. They have been identified as Zahid Ahmad Sheikh, son of Bashir Ahmad Sheikh; and Mehraj Ahmad Ragga, son of Mohd Yousuf Ragga; both residents of Hamdani Colony Bemina. During search, 65 grams of Charas like substance was recovered from their possession. They have been arrested and a case vide FIR Number 213/2025 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Awantipora and investigation has been initiated. Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
He also said that in Kupwara, a police team of Police Station Sogam at a checkpoint established at Tekipora near Eid-Gah intercepted 02 suspicious persons. They have been identified as Nisar Ahmad Magray, son of Abdul Gaffar Magray, resident of Wani Doursa; and Arshid Ahmad Khan, son of Mohd Mussa Khan, resident of Tekipora. Upon their personal search, charas-like substance wrapped in green polythene was recovered from their possession. They have been arrested and a case vide FIR No. 56/2025 under Sections 8/20 and 29 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Sogam and investigation has been taken up.
Police urged the common masses to share information regarding narcotics or any other crimes to the nearest police establishment or dial 112. They also requested general public to cooperate with police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society, and assured the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per the law.
