Police arrest 3 drug peddlers in Kulgam, Anantnag

Srinagar, Nov 14: Police have arrested 3 drug peddlers in south Kashmir’s Kulgam and Anantnag districts and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

A police party of PP Mirbazar at a checkpoint established in village Nipora Sadoora intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK14-4483 with two persons on board. They have been identified as Mohd Maroof, resident of Reasi and Jaswant Raj, resident of Reasi. During the search, officers were able to recover 2.8 Kgs of poppy straw, 2 number plates and a cash amount of `1,00,160.

Meanwhile in Anantnag, a police team from Police Station Srigufwara, intercepted a suspicious person carrying a nylon bag. He has been identified as Mohd Altaf Bhat, resident of Gonda, Rajouri A/P Sirhama. During the search, 5 Kgs of cannabis powder was recovered from his possession.

Meanwhile police in Bandipora during the current month have arrested 5 drug peddlers and recovered 3.5 Kgs of charas powder, 20 bottles of codeine phosphate from them, and seized 7 vehicles carrying illegal mining material and also arrested 4 gamblers at different places in the district.

Moreover, three bank accounts of a notorious drug peddler were also freezed under NDPS Act having savings of more than 5 lakhs acquired through sale of narcotics substances in case FIR No.174/2024 of PS Sumbal.
