Police arrest 3 drug peddlers in Awantipora
Awantipora, Oct 24: Continuing its drive against drug peddlers and their propagators, the police arrested three individuals in Awantipora and recovered psychotropic substances from their possession.
A police party from the Pampore Police Station, headed by the SHO and under the supervision of the SDPO Pampore, intercepted a vehicle (Eco Sports) bearing registration number HR26CK-0579 during a naka checking near EDI Pampore.
There were three people on board. During the search, two bottles of codeine were recovered.
The suspects have been identified as Shabir Ahmad Shah, a resident of Tanchabagh Pampore; Imtiyaz Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Namblabal Pampore; and Haris Younis, a resident of Hawal. They have been arrested and taken to the police station, where they remain in custody. The vehicle used in the commission of the crime has also been seized.
A case has been registered at the Pampore Police Station and further investigation has been initiated.
“The general public is requested to cooperate with the police in curbing the menace of drugs in society. We assure community members that the police will take strict action against criminals in accordance with the law,” police said.
