Srinagar, Oct 18: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday arrested three drug peddlers in Kulgam & Awantipora areas and recovered contraband substance from their possession.

A police official said that in Kulgam, a police party from Police Station Yaripora at a checkpoint established at Kanjikullah intercepted 02 persons, riding a motorcycle bearing registration number JK13J-7576. During search, 06 grams of Heroin like contraband substance and Cash of Rs 15720/- (believed to be proceeds of narcotics) was recovered from their possession. They have been identified as Faizan Ahmad Dar, son of Nafees Ahmad Dar, resident of Brazloo; and Pillion rider Sheeraz Ahmad Lone @Sher Khan, resident of Tungdanoo. They have been arrested and motorcycle used in the commission of crime has also been seized. Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 66/2025 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Yaripora, and investigation has been initiated.

The official also said that in Awantipora, a police party of Police Station Khrew headed by SHO PS Khrew at a checkpoint established at Ladhoo Batpora Crossinng intercepted a suspicious person. During search, 3.10 Kgs of grinded cannabis was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Tanveer Ahmad Mochi, son of Manzoor Ahmad Mochi, resident of Ladhoo. Accordingly, a case vide FIR No.78/2025 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Khrew and further investigation has been initiated.

Meanwhile, in a separate action, Jammu and Kashmir Police conducted a mass disposal drive of seized narcotic substances under the supervision of the District Level Drug Disposal Committee.

A police official said the destruction process was carried out under the directions of the Hon’ble Additional Sessions Judge Budgam/Munsiff (JMIC) Budgam and Additional Munsiff (JMIC) Srinagar, and in the presence of officers from the Pollution Control Board Budgam, Naib Tehsildar Budgam, and officials from Budgam Police and ANTF/CID/CI.

He said the contraband was destroyed under Section 52-A of the NDPS Act at Kashmir Healthcare System Bio-Medical Waste Unit, IGC Lasipora Pulwama, following all legal and environmental protocols.

The seized substances, according to police were recovered in nine NDPS cases across different Police Stations of the district, included 38.5 kg of poppy straw, 21.66 kg of charas powder, 418 grams of ganja, and 80 grams of charas, valued at approximately Rs 41 lakhs.
